2009 festival General Stuff music oxegen oxygen stage timesDo not buy any gear off globalmediapro, they’re dodgy as fuck. You pay them through IBAN bank transfer which is European, yet goods are shipped from locations all around the world, Singapore, China and Japan. They claim to be 3 or 4 days delivery but it took us 3 weeks. When the goods arrived by courier, we’d to pay nearly double the price in customs to get the stuff which we thought were coming from the EU.
We emailed and phoned to complain but with no response. They’re dodgy, do not deal with them. Loads of people having problems with them as well. And word is they threaten to sue people who complain on forums.
And if Globalmediapro is reading this and thinking of suing, you can find my address by whois-ing this domain. Thanks
General Stuff globalmediapro ripoff scamThey caught him after a while when this gearbox went. 7 cars after him on camera, apparently 25 cars after him in total. What did he do?!? Via Boards.ie

alan cantwell esb ad General StuffLast day before we all have to vote on the lisbon treaty. Since I read the facts on this before Christmas I’ve been strongly in favour of a yes vote. It’s a basic housekeeping exercise for the EU and I’m pro-europe as everyone in Ireland should be. The money we’ve received during the 80s and 90s was crazy, now we hear complaints from clueless fuckers that we’ll be sending money to the 10 accession countries. Our contribution is tiny compared to the UK and Germany, the latter has been bankrolling the EU project since its beginning.
It’s a good thing if infrastructure is improved in Poland and other countries, their economy improves and we can sell our shit to them. Some deals are win-win. I was sure this would be passed easy but with the scaremongering by the previously unknown Libertas, I’m not so sure now. All the main parties are in favour of it, does that not convice people? You only have the obsolete shinners against it (check out that united irelander blog if you’re looking for a good laugh btw).
This shouldn’t have went to a referendum, it should have been passed in parliament somehow like all other EU countries did. People don’t know what’s good for them.
General Stuff lisbon treatymuxtape is another one of these web 2.0 startups that get the site up now and will worry about copyrights later. Basically you signup and upload 12 of your favourite tracks, send everyone your link and they can listen to the songs through flash. Of course the links to the actual MP3s stored on Amazons (very cool) S3 service are easy to find and come with a little ‘DON’T STEAL MUSIC’ query tag variable.
I love this site, I go there everyday and pick a new tape to listen to, the amount of new music I’ve been introduced is unreal. It tends to be the real music fans who create the tapes aswell so no Rihanna or Justin in there. I hope it isn’t closed soon but it inevitably will. Surprised it lasted this long.
In the meantime, using the excellent muxtape downloader greasemonkey script that place a little download link beside each song. It’s like the last days of Napster!
General Stuff greasemonkey download script muxtapeDo for you. From the smoking gun.

Jason Calacanis showing his ignorance with a twitter last night on how he wants to outsource mindless drone work to irish or indians. I’ve often used cheap labour myself for stuff like captcha solving but I wouldn’t be sourcing anywhere local. Indian GDP per capita is $3,800. Irish GDP per capita is $44,500. A little world economy lesson for ya there Jason.
Calacanis has a web 2.0 startup called Mahalo which has a ridiculous business model. He wants to generate human edited search results for the most common queries. A few issues I have with the idea:
1) I don’t think anything human edited can keep up with the current pace of the web. A breaking blog post on a topic can be indexed and highly ranked in Google in a matter of hours these days as long as it has authority links. The authority sites are doing the human editing for Google. Real human editing could not possibly keep up.
2) OK, the Mahalo editors might be doing a good service with these result pages but it’s like something the wikimedia foundation would bring out and release completely free. Thousands of editors are writing pages for Wikipedia for free (I don’t know why, but they do) but Jason is paying editors to make pages for Mahalo. It is not a good business model.
3) If a super search engine came out tomorrow with a much vaster index than G and better relevancy, it would still take a long while for people to switch. Google’s results are ‘good enough’ to prevent people to actively look for other engines.
Do people think of something they want to read about or (more importantly) buy and load up the Mahalo homepage to start a search? I seriously doubt it. I assume the majority of Mahalo’s traffic comes from Google. It’s a crap idea, it will be forgotten in a years time when Bubble 2.0 has burst and swept away all the shite
General Stuff jason calacanis kOM PUT ER mahaloA court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
The 19-year-old woman — whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms — was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for “being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape,” the Arab News reported.
But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia’s Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.

wtf. If these countries didn’t have the majority of the world’s oil supply we could be done with them. How could any modern civilisation think this is OK?
